There has been much speculation surrounding Exchange, and what is coming in 2016. In these technology advanced days, it is important to take a good hard look at all of the options and ask yourself if Exchange is the solution you are still looking for.


The market these days is quickly moving to the cloud, and every day companies are making the leap to cloud-based solutions and working with and getting comfortable with the cloud.

If you are considering your options and decide to stay with an on-premise solution, the easiest upgrade path is to Exchange 2016, and you won?t be alone. Predictions made are claiming as many as 120 million people will migrate to the new Exchange platform before the end of 2016.

Microsoft is currently using Exchange 2016 as an influence on how quickly people are embracing the new product. They can also predict with this information, how many on-premise organizations will end up making the move to Microsoft Office 365. But that may not be all Microsoft has up their sleeve for us, with the Microsoft Office 365 roadmap always full, experts are predicting one more major application launch from Microsoft this year.

The main highlights of Exchange 2016 are:

  • High availability
  • Simplified Architecture
  • Faster and enhanced search
  • Collaboration tools for SharePoint and OneDrive
  • More reliability for failovers
  • Optimized for Outlook 2016

There are however some points of caution that should be made regarding Exchange 2016, including the fact that if you are thinking about making the upgrade the it is important to understand that Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007 will not be supported. It should also be mentioned that Windows Server 2008 R2 will be the bare minimum at the domain and forest level.

So what?s to be expected? If your business might be moving in a new direction, where other resources are mandatory, perhaps it?s time to look at your options. While you?ve heard the success stories of Microsoft Office 365, but perhaps you should also look at the advantages of what may be considered a safer route, Exchange 2016.
